Hello. My name is Ioana and I am a medical resident and a psychotherapist. My aim in my profession is to help people manage their inner struggles and guide them on the path they have been called to walk.
I studied psychoanalytic psychotherapy and general medicine in Romania, having been formerly schooled in the United States, and now I practice general medicine and psychoanalytic psychotherapy in Romania and abroad.
I have a vast understanding of various cultures, types of people and social and individual problems. If you feel and think that we could start a working relationship, then send me a message; I look forward to our first meeting!
Do you wish to begin psychotherapy?
You can make an appointment at:
The therapy sessions can take place:
Call me during my working hours or leave me a message in the contact section, on Whatsapp or through email. I work from Monday till Saturday between 9 AM and 7 PM (Romania time). If I cannot answer right away, I will contact you the first chance I get, often times in that same day.
In your message please mention:
Send me an email or leave me a message in the contact section, specifying which days and hour intervals (Romania time) are available for you.
*Note! The sessions can take place in English or in Romanian, depending on your preference! The first 3 meetings are for the patient and the therapist to get to know each other and see if they wish to work together. For this reason, they are free of charge.
Psychoanalytic psychotherapy takes place in certain specific conditions, which have been tested and validated in time, to ensure the success of psychotherapy.
The following is a presentation of the specific way psychoanalytic psychotherapy works, according to the international recommendations and rules referring to the practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The first 3 meetings are for the patient and the therapist to get to know each other and see if they wish to work together. For this reason, they are free of charge; the fee is required starting with the first meeting AFTER the first three initial interviews.
“The setting” is the ensemble of variables which consists of the formal setting within which the therapy takes place: the planning of the meetings, their frequency and duration, the fee and mode of payment, vacations. Respecting the setting has an essential organisational role for the efficiency of the therapy; constancy is necessary for something to develop.
The duration of one therapy session is 50 minutes. The meeting always begins at fixed hours (ex. 10 AM) and ends after 50 minutes (10:50). Even if the patient is late, the set time will be respected, in order to avoid delaying other therapy sessions.
There are 3 work rhythms:
-minimal: 1 session/week;
-moderate: 2 sessions/week;
-intensive: 3-6 sessions/week.
I can recommend which frequency of work may be more suitable, but the choice of the work rhythm remains with the patient. There are patients who start slowly and raise the frequency along the way, while others may start intensively and later diminish the rhythm; every person has their own preference and will discover what is best suited.
Psychotherapy may last a few months or years and may take place with or without interruptions. There is no set rule in this respect and it differs according to the necessities and possibilities of each individual. Often times, these aspects are determined most by the motives of the patient for choosing to begin psychotherapy; if the patient wishes to receive help for a temporary problem, then the therapy may last a short time, whereas a patient who starts psychotherapy for personal growth may be in therapy for some years.
As a psychotherapist, I have the obligation to keep confidentiality and any information that is entrusted to me will remain secret, including after the end of the therapy. Hence, the patient can and is encouraged to talk about anything that crosses their mind.
